Jose Mourinho is considering bringing Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi to United, according to reports.
The 28-year-old has been marginalised by Antonio Conte this season.
Mourinho held the Nigerian in high regard during his time in charge of the Blues.
Julian Draxler wants to leave Wolfsburg
And according to The Sun, with Mikel out of contract at the end of the season, Mourinho is keen to swoop.
The report suggests the Portuguese tactician is confident he can close out a deal in January and is looking to partner him alongside Paul Pogba.
Arsenal target Julian Draxler has been questioned over his desire to leave Wolfsburg.
Arsene Wenger is a long-term admirer of the midfielder, who has seen his form nosedive this term.
Recent reports have suggested the Gunners will rival Juventus for Draxler’s signature.
And former Wolfsburg coach Klaus Augenthaler doesn’t get why the player wants to leave the Bundesliga outfit.
“He said he wants to go. Maybe to England, where there is much more money," Augenthaler said.
"He is a young player. I don't know why he says he wants to go.”
