Sterling left Liverpool for Manchester City last summer in acrimonious circumstances after failing to agree a new contract.
Former Reds manager Brendan Rodgers claimed the winger had been offered an "incredible deal" but made the move to the Etihad for £49million instead.
Despite struggling under ex-City boss Manuel Pellegrini, Sterling's performances have picked up following the arrival of Pep Guardiola.

And former Liverpool team-mate Gerrard thinks the 21-year-old owes a lot to the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach.
"It's confidence," Gerrard told BT Sport prior to City's 1-1 Champions League draw with Borussia Monchengladbach last night.
"When your wings are clipped and you're getting a bit of criticism in the media you sort of go into a shell.
"But the manager's come in, showed big confidence in him, he's started the season very well and he's gone from strength to strength.

"Everyone knows, if you've got that confidence you go out and express yourself and that's what Raheem is doing."
Sterling has made 11 Premier League appearances this season, scoring four goals and providing three assists.
