Manchester United wanted this Arsenal star: Arsene Wenger scuppered deal
MANCHESTER UNITED were desperate to sign Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy in the summer of 2015, according to reports.
Manchester United reportedly wanted to sign Arsenal ace Mathieu Debuchy
Debuchy has endured a nightmare couple of seasons at the Emirates - losing his place in the side to Hector Bellerin.
He was loaned to Bordeaux in January but failed to shine in France, forcing him to return to north London.
But, according to French newspaper L'Equipe, the player could easily have ended up at Old Trafford.
Manchester United ended up signing Matteo Darmian from Torino instead
The report claims that former boss Louis van Gaal was prepared to offer him a five-year contract to sign for Manchester United.
He eventually ended up swooping for Matteo Darmian, who has flitted in and out of the side following his move from Torino.
And it is claimed that Van Gaal was forced to swoop for Darmian after Arsene Wenger blocked Debuchy leaving for their Premier League rivals.

Arsenal lost Robin van Persie to United in 2012 and did not want a repeat of the scenario that ended with United winning the league title the following year.
Debuchy is yet to play for Arsenal so far this season - despite Bellerin currently out injured.
He was omitted from the squad that drew 2-2 with PSG in the Champions League last night, with former Charlton defender Carl Jenkinson ahead of him in the pecking order.
