England striker Jamie Vardy lucky to escape red after reckless tackle on Chelsea defender
JAMIE VARDY was lucky to escape a red card in the opening minutes of England’s friendly against Spain.
Jamie Vardy could have seen red for England after his tackle on Cesar Azpilicueta
The Leicester striker, in for Daniel Sturridge as Gareth Southgate made three changes to his side, went in hard on Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta.
Vardy played the ball first but followed through high up the defender’s leg and should have been sent off.
Vardy then won the penalty for England’s opener after being brought down by Pepe Reina.

England are looking to go a fourth game unbeaten under Southgate, who is expected to be named full time boss following this match.
Southgate took over from Sam Allardyce and was given four games to prove he could do the job.
He beat Malta in his first before drawing with Slovenia and then beating Scotland on Friday to put England top of Group F on the road to Russia 2018.
