Schweinsteiger has since been allowed to return to first-team training but Express Sport understands the decision was made to help build his fitness for a January transfer.
And it appears his future may lie in America and Major League Soccer.
On Wednesday, Schweinsteiger was spotted leaving Piccolino restaurant in Hale after a four-hour lunch.
And he was followed out by Veljko Paunovic, who is the coach at Fire.
