GARETH SOUTHGATE has confirmed Wayne Rooney will return to captain England against Scotland in the World Cup qualifier at Wembley tomorrow night.

Rooney was dropped for England's 0-0 draw with Slovenia last month after struggling for form at club level with Manchester United.
The 31-year-old has been left out by Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho in recent weeks but returned to United's starting line-up in the 3-1 victory over Swansea last weekend.

Rooney was key for United at the Liberty Stadium and played a part in all three goals, including two assists for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
And England interim head coach Southgate is confident his experienced skipper is 'in a better place' to lead England against Scotland.

Southgate said: "Yes, Wayne will be captain. He's in a better place now than the one he was in the last time we met up.
"He's played well the last couple of times for Manchester United, he's confident and his experience for a game like this is really important."
