Christensen, 20, is on a two-year loan at Bundesliga side Gladbach after joining Chelsea from Danish side Brondby in 2014.
Gladbach had hoped to open discussions with Chelsea over a permanent switch for the Denmark international.
But Eberl has conceded that those talks will not likely take place because Christensen already has his heart on heading back to west London.

Ask on Germany TV show Sky90 about signing Christensen permanently, he said: ”That would be a lot of work.
“But I still hope that there may be some (deal).
“It is likely that we will not buy him.
“But perhaps there is a different model (of transfer).”

Chelsea currently have 38 players out on loan and have built a reputation for hoarding young stars over the past few seasons.
Baba Rahman and Michael Hector are also on loan at German clubs, while Chelsea’s affiliate Vitesse Arnheim currently have three Blues players on their books.
Christensen has made nine appearances for Gladbach this season and is a key figure to their Champions League campaign.
He has also developed into a regular in the Danish national team for their 2018 World Cup qualification campaign.
