Manchester United legend calls for Michael Carrick return after shock Watford defeat
PAUL SCHOLES wants Michael Carrick back in the Manchester United midfield after today's 3-1 defeat to Watford.
Midfielder Marouane Fellaini's career progression so far
United were undone by two second-half goals from the home side, including a 95th minute penalty from Troy Deeney.
Deeney was brought down in the box by Marouane Fellaini for the spot kick and Jose Mourinho lamented "individual mistakes" after the match.
And United legend Scholes thinks it's about time Fellaini was benched and replaced by the experienced Carrick.
"Fellaini was alright today, he does a job in there, but if you're at Manchester United, you need more than that," Scholes told BT Sport.
Paul Scholes has suggested Michael Carrick deserves a shot in the starting XI
"You need someone who can stop the play as well.
"Someone who can stop the opposition but who is capable of controlling a game of football as well, playing forward and passing forward.
"I can't understand why Michael Carrick is here. He looked like he was leaving last year and he's not been involved for a minute this season.
"What he has done, I don't know… they need to get a playmaker in there."
