Everton axe move for Leicester ace as part of transfer deal: Newcastle and Chelsea options
EVERTON have shelved their interest in Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as part of the deal that saw Steve Walsh installed as their new director of football.
Everton have shelved plans to sign Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel
Walsh will not target any Leicester players for Everton in the transfer window in the wake of his own defection from the King Power this week.
Leicester were reluctant to lose their assistant manager and head of recruitment with Walsh credited with the signings of N'Golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez and pushed to ensure they would not be susceptible to immediate raids of their squad.
Joel Robles is currently in situ at Goodison Park.
Newcastle's Tim Krul – who is coming back from injury - remains on Everton's list of alternatives, while Chelsea's Asmir Begovic is an option.
Leicester have offered Schmeichel a new contract as the champions seek to prevent their squad from fragmenting further.
Walsh held talks with Koeman yesterday as Everton's recruitment drive prepares to move forward with the likes of Moussa Sissoko of Newcastle and Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson under discussion.
Newcastle have placed a £35m price-tag on Sissoko and it is unlikely Everton would be prepared to meet that valuation despite the presence of new major shareholder Farhad Moshiri.
