Arsenal and Chelsea look set to miss out on Alvaro Morata
Real recently reactivated Morata’s £23million buy-back clause.
Arsenal have expressed a strong interest, as they seek to provide competition up front for Olivier Giroud.
Chelsea meanwhile have been coveting Morata’s signature, as doubts continue to persist over Diego Costa’s future, with reports suggesting he has told Antonio Conte he wants to leave Stamford Bridge and rejoin Atletico Madrid, whom he left two years ago.
The Gunners have also been chasing Napoli hitman Gonzalo Higuain, with reports suggesting Giroud could be used as bait to secure a potential deal.
But according to Spanish paper AS, Arsenal and Chelsea’s hopes of signing Morata appear to be over.
The 23-year-old, the report suggests, will put pen to paper on a new five-year deal worth around £96,000 a week.
