And Banks, England's first-choice stopper in 1966, wants Stoke star Butland to be given his chance for the 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.
"Hart made a couple of bad mistakes but we all make mistakes. Everybody does that and you can't just hammer him because of it. He's reasonably good," Banks, 78, told Express Sport.

And Banks, who played for Stoke for five years and won the 1972 League Cup, sees a bright future for the national side with Butland as first-choice stopper.
"I've been told how much he practises, how hard he works in training and that's good," Banks said.
"His positional play when he comes for crosses, his agility to get in the corners.
"Honestly, I'm pretty certain that he will become the next England goalkeeper. He's the man."
