The Germany midfielder has two years remaining on his existing deal, but will be offered an extension after manager Jurgen Klopp approved the move.
Can, 22, has become increasingly influential for Liverpool since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in a £9.75m deal.
Klopp has been impressed by Can since he took over from Brendan Rodgers in October.
He started his Anfield career inconsistently and struggled to nail down his position in Rodgers' squad – often playing in a back three.

But since the arrival of Klopp he has shown his ability in midfield.
He is currently with Germany preparing for Euro 2016 with their first game coming on Sunday against Ukraine.
