Leeds United manager search: Another name out of race as club swoop in on appointment
LEEDS UNITED have missed out on appointing former Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores as Espanyol close in on the Spaniard, according to reports.
Espanyol are reportedly close to signing Leeds managerial target Quique Sanchez Flores
Flores is one of a number of names reportedly on Leeds owner Massimo Cellino's list of candidates to replace Steve Evans.
Scot Evans, 53, looks likely to be let go when his contract expires at the end of June.
Sanchez Flores announces he will leave Watford
Rayo Vallecano manager Paco Jemez and Jorge Sampaoli, who quit his post as Chile head coach to try and get a club job in Europe, are also on Espanyol's radar.
The club have denied their officials had dinner with Flores last week as they try and keep their interest a secret so as not to deter either Jemez or Sampaoli in the event Flores rejects their offer.
As for Leeds, Cellino is seeking a new top target after MK Dons boss Karl Robinson and Bristol Rovers' Darrell Clarke snubbed the president's advances.
