Manchester United's Renato Sanches claim: Club abandoned deal in February
MANCHESTER UNITED ended their pursuit of Renato Sanches months ago, according to reports.
Woodward is said to have given up on Sanches as much as three months ago
Sanches was today unveiled as Bayern Munich's latest signing, putting pen to paper on a deal worth up to £63million.
The German club will only pay £27.5m up front with the rest of the fee being due if certain performance-based conditions are met.
And the deal was seen as a huge blow to United who had reportedly been scouting the player for much of the season.
But there they were knocked out by Bayern Munich and the midfielder was said to have been convinced by the atmosphere at the Allianz Arena to join the club.
Sanches was also given his international debut by Portugal in March and a move to the German champions marks the pinnacle of a remarkable rise to fame.
