Joe Hart on Real Madrid defeat: We didn't deserve a place in the Champions League final
JOE HART admitted Manchester City did not do enough to deserve a place in the Champions League final.
Joe Hart reckons Man City didn't deserve a Champions League final spot after Real Madrid defeat
And he appeared to aim a barbed comment at City striker Sergio Aguero for a largely anonymous display as Real Madrid ensured a show down with neighbours Atletico in Milan on May 28.
An own goal by Fernando – who deflected a Gareth Bale shot – was all that separated the two sides.
But Hart felt City could have done more to secure the 1-1 draw that would have seen them through on a night when their major stars failed to step up to the plate.
City manager Manuel Pellegrini, whose dream of bowing out with a final appearance was dashed, was frustrated at his team’s lack of penetration.
He said: “I am disappointed because I think that was a very close game with two teams who did not create many chances. The two teams were working with no one making a difference.”
To compound City’s disappointing night they lost skipper Vincent Kompany with yet another injury – this time a groin injury that could end his season and wreck his Euro 2016 hopes.
But Pellegrini did not claim that effected the game. He added: “It is not the best thing changing a defender very early but I don’t think we had any problems in defence, we had problems creating, same as Real Madrid. They did not create many chances.”
