Ruben Loftus-Cheek was a bright spark in an otherwise dire performance
Thibaut Courtois: First stood tall and then reacted brilliantly to deny first Kevin De Bruyne and then Samir Nasri in one-on-ones before half-time. Could do nothing about the goals and was unfortunate to be sent off - 8
Cesar Azpilicueta: Was the least troubled of Chelsea’s defenders thanks to having Samir Nasri opposite him - 7
Gary Cahill: Looked predictably rusty as De Bruyne’s breaks from midfield caused serious problems for Chelsea’s defence. Recovered brilliantly to tackle Sergio Aguero just before half-time but still looked off the pace. A worry for Hodgson - 5
Cesc Fabregas: Anonymous in the first half. Little better in the second. Seems to have lost either ability or confidence to pick defences apart - 5
Willian: Chipped a promising free-kick over the bar on the stroke of half-time but failed to trouble Kolarov as much as he has another left-backs this season. Delivery was otherwise typically excellent from dead-ball situations but has to be more than a free-kick taker - 6
Pedro: Beat Joe Hart early on only for Nicolas Otamendi to clear off the line. Provide some direct impetus when it was often lacking - 7
Hiddink: "Empty feeling at Chelsea"
Ruben Loftus-Cheek: Wonderfully confident on the ball for a man of 20. Forced a good save from Hart in the first half. Had little help but looks to be a player with a big future - 8
Diego Costa: A world-class centre forward at times although he lacked for service. Loftus-Cheek was admirable but the two paled when you compare them with Aguero and De Bruyne at the other end - 7
