Sergio Aguero missed a penalty for Manchester City but they still beat PSG last night
The Argentina striker fired a 16th minute spot kick wide in the last night’s quarter-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain – but in the end it didn’t matter because Kevin De Bruyne’s 76th minute winner put City through on a 3-2 aggregate.
Now Ageuro would love to face former club Atletico Madrid in the last four – and will be glued to his television tonight to see if they can overturn Barcelona’s slender 2-1 first leg lead.
He said: “I’ll be following the game obviously. Atleti in the last few years have improved a lot and I think they can give Barcelona a really tough game. I played for them and I want them to do well.
“Obviously it is not nice to miss a penalty but I'm happy because the moment passed and the most important thing is that we qualified," he added.
“These things happen, I'm not on a good run with penalties but I'm sure I will get another chance to make up for it soon.
“We won well. At times we couldn't control the ball but we played pretty well, we knew how we had to play and I hope we can continue in the same fashion.
“Paris are a great team, they have very good players, but we did a great job over there in the first leg and knew what we had to do at home."
Sergio Aguero - Spotlight on
Aguero says winning the competition would be the perfect send off for manager Manuel Pellegrini who will be replaced at the end of the season by Pep Guardiola.
“It is important for all of us, but especially for him because he knows he won’t be here for next season so I imagine he must be very happy, very pleased. I hope we can go even further," he said.
“To be in the semi-finals is something really amazing, it gives us great pride to take City to this level.
"This was our goal, to be among the four best teams in the Champions League, and now we want to keep growing.”
