The 27-year-old has been charged with improper conduct by the FA for his reaction to his dismissal.
But no action will be taken against him following an alleged gesture he made to Everton supporters during the FA Cup tie.
However Hiddink insisted the former Atletico Madrid forward gets treated unfairly.
"[It's] too strong. If you know the definition of an idiot, that is not him," he said.
"It’s not always if you are in the very hectic situation, it’s difficult.
“That’s why I defend him - his contribution is brilliant. I judge him fairly."
