Man Utd's managerial hunt takes new turn with Van Gaal hanging on
LAURENT BLANC has emerged as a surprise contender to replace Louis van Gaal at Manchester United, according to reports.
Laurent Blanc is being considered as a potential candidate to replace Louis van Gaal
Van Gaal has come under intense scrutiny this term, and he saw his side slump to a 2-0 defeat in the first leg of their last-16 Europa League tie against Liverpool on Thursday.
Jose Mourinho is widely fancied to replace Van Gaal in the summer and it is thought he has already agreed a return to management.
However, Mourinho’s move to Old Trafford is far from a certainty.
According to the Daily Star on Sunday, Paris Saint-Germain boss Blanc is in the running for the job.
The report suggests that Blanc, a former United defender, is still held in high regard by the club’s director and ex-boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Louis Van Gaal - Spotlight on
Blanc, who has known as “Le President” for his leadership qualities, is on the brink of steering PSG to another Ligue 1 title and saw his side knock Chelsea out of the Champions League on Wednesday.
It is claimed United would be a tempting prospect for Blanc, with the Red Devils also lining up a move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is out of contract with the French giants in the summer.
