Newcastle agree to contract clause as Rafa Benitez heads to Tyneside
NEWCASTLE have reportedly agreed to grant Rafa Benitez a get-out clause if he takes Newcastle down this season.
Rafa Benitez could quit Newcastle at the end of the season if they are relegated
Express Sport understand Benitez, 55, is all set to be announced as the Toon's new manager.
He will replace Steve McClaren, who has taken training at Newcastle all week.
Club managing director Lee Charnley is understood to have been in talks with Benitez for a number of days.
The former Liverpool and Chelsea boss has reportedly needed a lot of convincing that Newcastle is the right step to take.
As for the club, they will have to pay departing boss McClaren a £2m severance package for his failures this season.
McClaren will likely leave the club 19th in the Premier League with just six wins to show from his £83m spend on new players.
