England set for shock Jose Mourinho move if Manchester United deal falls through
THE FA have placed Jose Mourinho on their shortlist to replace Roy Hodgson, according to reports.
Mourinho could replace Hodgson in the England job
Express Sport understands the Portuguese manager expects to take over at Old Trafford if Louis van Gaal fails to qualify for the Champions League this season.
Mourinho believes that missing out on a Premier League top-four finish would spell the end of Van Gaal’s tempestuous reign at Manchester United.
And now The Sun are claiming that Mourinho’s name has been discussed as part of a contingency plan in case Hodgson leaves the England job after Euro 2016.
Mourinho was interviewed by the FA about potentially taking on the role before England appointed Fabio Capello and is still well respected at St George’s.
And should Hodgson fail to reach the semi-finals as chairman Greg Dyke has publicly stated they should then the FA will be desperately hoping Mourinho is still available.
