Agent: Jose Mourinho tried to sign 'next Frank Lampard' before Chelsea sacked him
JOSE MOURINHO tried to sign Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro at Chelsea, according to his agent.
Jose Mourinho tried to sign the new Frank Lampard at Chelsea
Mourinho believed Sturaro, 22, could be the next Frank Lampard, who ended his 13-year stay at Chelsea in 2014 as the club's all-time top goalscorer.
The Portuguese wanted to bring Sturaro to Stamford Bridge in January, but the Italy Under-21 international remained at Juve after Mourinho was sacked in December.
Sturaro joined Juve from Genoa in 2014 and has made 20 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A giants so far this term.
“I talked to Mourinho who liked Stefano, and thought he could be another Lampard," Carlo Volpi told TuttoJuve. "The Blues tried along with other Premier League teams."

Volpi revealed during the winter window that Chelsea's negotiations over signing his client collapsed as soon as Mourinho was dismissed at the west London club.
“The Special One followed Stefano’s development with great interest," Volpi said last month. "But everything fell apart after Mourinho was sacked."
