Manchester United deny £27m striker bid
MANCHESTER UNITED have played down reports Wayne Rooney could leave in the summer.
Manchester United deny bid for Wayne Rooney
That is according to Sky Sports, who claim the club have denied speculation linking United's captain with a £27million move to Shanghai Shenua.
The Daily Mirror claim the mega-rich club were lining up a £500,000-a-week deal to lure Rooney to the Chinese Super League.
Chinese officials want Rooney, 30, to be the face of their league and are prepared to pay the England skipper £75m to commit for the next three years.
The transfer fee would see United recoup the £26.5m they paid Everton in 2004, despite his age and the fact his contract runs for just two more years.

The Manchester Evening News says that Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal would consider selling Rooney as long as the club replaced him with a marquee signing.
But United have reportedly claimed they have received no such bid for Rooney, who has scored 244 goals in 511 appearances since joining 12 years ago.
