Carroll, 27, has only recently come back from hamstring problem that has dogged his season.
He is understood to have suffered an adductor injury in West Ham's 2-2 draw with Norwich last weekend.
Carroll has scored just three goals all season for Slaven Bilic's side, while Argentine Lanzini oboists four goals from 14 appearances in the league.
Bilic faces a striker shortage for the trip to Ewood Park after Enner Valencia was also injured with an ankle knock against Norwich.
Diafra Sakho is still sidelined due to a thigh injury.
