Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of £37m Borussia Monchengladbach star Granit Xhaka.
The club's sporting director Max Eberl has revealed the 23-year-old will not be allowed to leave in the January transfer window.
"Granit Xhaka won't be leaving the club during the winter break - that's for sure. I'm looking forward to his return," he said.

Arsenal are considering a bid for Hull striker Abel Hernandez, according to reports.
Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web claim the Gunners will wait until the summer transfer window opens before swooping for the Uruguay international.
Hernandez has proven himself to be a formidable Championship striker, netting 15 times in 23 league appearances this season.
The Gunners have missed out on wantaway Chelsea midfielder Charly Musonda, according to reports.
French publication Foot Mercato claim the Blues have agreed a temporary deal with Real Betis for the youngster to go on loan to the La Liga side.
The report claims the 19-year-old will join Betis on a 12-month loan without an option to purchase at the end of his contract.
