The Algeria attacking midfielder is also on the wanted lists of Liverpool and Manchester United, but Palace had hoped to get in ahead of their rivals for the Porto playmaker, who has scored six goals this season, with a club-record bid. But Porto have placed a £44m buyout clause in the 25-year-old's contract.
Palace manager Alan Pardew also wants to bring in a striker, and has enquired about Chelsea's Loic Remy.
