Charlie Austin: Why I joined Southampton over other Premier League clubs
NEW Southampton striker Charlie Austin says he had no doubts when signing for the south coast club from QPR today.
Charlie Austin signed for Southampton this morning
Austin has penned a contract until 2020 after Rangers accepted a reported £4million offer from Soutampton.
The Loftus Road club would have lost their star forward for free in the summer once his contract had expired - and so decided to cash in now.
"As soon as Southampton showed an interest that was the one club I wanted to go to.
"You see the progression from when I was playing against Southampton for Swindon.
"For me, it was important to come to a club that's on the up and that's what I've got here."
Newcastle, West Ham, Chelsea and Crystal Palace were all thought to be interested in his signature, with the Magpies favourites to secure a deal with QPR.
