Barcelona close in on Liverpool target after transfer embargo is lifted
BARCELONA are ready to spend big this January after having their transfer embargo lifted - and will reportedly start with a bid for Liverpool target Max Meyer.
Max Meyer is reportedly valued at around £9.6m
The Nou Camp club have been unable to sign players for 12 months after FIFA imposed a ban on transactions following an investigation into their youth recruitment practices.
Now free from the ban, Barca boss Luis Enrique is set to bolster his team as they prepare to defend their Spanish title and Champions League crown.
And one of the names on Enrique's list is Schalke ace Meyer, who Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo also claim is wanted by Liverpool.
Liverpool's interest appears to stem from manager Jurgen Klopp, who was in charge of Bundesliga side Dortmund for seven years before quitting the club last summer.
Meyer scored against Klopp's men during 2013 and a year later earned his first Germany cap.
Klopp is reportedly on the market for a striker as Liverpool endure an injury crisis up front.
Liverpool not good enough - Klopp
Daniel Sturridge remains sidelined, while Divock Origi suffered a hamstring injury last month and Danny Ings is out for the season with a knee ligament tear.
But Klopp is keen to strengthen his squad elsewhere and is expected to secure the arrival of Red Star Belgrade ace Marko Grujic, who is on Merseyside undergoing a medical today ahead of his £5.1m switch.
