Everton eye January bargain deal for Lazio ace wanted by Chelsea
EVERTON are reportedly keen to sign Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti in January - and believe they can get a bargain price for the ace.
Federico Marchetti is reportedly wanted by Everton and Chelsea
Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is expected to make moves in the transfer window, which opens tomorrow.
Current number one, 36-year-old Tim Howard, is under contract at Goodison Park until 2018, with Joel Robles second choice.
But Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claim boss Martinez may look to add competition between the sticks in the form of Marchetti.
The former Cagliari player has made 16 appearances for Lazio this season but has kept just four clean sheets - all at home.
Gazzetta suggest Chelsea, along with Inter Milan and Juventus, could also go in for the player.
Everton vs Tottenham - Premier League preview
Chelsea have only recently welcomed back first-choice stopper Thibaut Courtois after he missed the start of the season through injury.
Stand-in Asmir Begovic has made 19 appearances for the Blues but has struggled to convince as the defending Premier League champions languish in the bottom half of the table.
It is claimed both English clubs, along with their Serie A rivals, would jump at the chance to buy the experienced Marchetti but only on a cheap deal.
