The Colombia striker has been out since October with a thigh issue and has suffered a major setback, according to reports.
Falcao, who has scored just once for Chelsea, was set to end his loan spell and cut his £140,000-a-week wages off the club's bill.
However the latest injury may see him stay put - and Guus Hiddink is also considering dipping into the transfer market to add to his squad.
