... But these Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool moves show why you shouldn't buy in January!
FOR all the brilliant purchases by top Premier League clubs in January, there have been some shockers too.
Fernando Torres was a massive flop at Chelsea
Here Express Sport reflects on the five worst by Premier League clubs.
Fernando Torres
Liverpool to Chelsea, January 2011
Fee: £50m
After smashing in the goals at Liverpool, it seemed that Chelsea were set for a match made in heaven with Fernando Torres.
But instead the Spaniard became the butt of all jokes. One goal in his first 18 games was a worrying sign of things to come.
While Torres failed to reproduce the electrifying form he showed at Anfield, a rare highlight was the winner he scored in Chelsea's Champions League semi-final win over Barcelona in 2012 at the Nou Camp.
Andrei Arshavin never really got going at Arsenal
Andrei Arshavin
Zenit St Petersburg to Arsenal, February 2009
Fee: £15m
Andrei Arshavin ended up moving to the Emirates a day after the January transfer window closed.
Big things were expected especially after he helped Zenit St Petersburg lift the UEFA Cup the previous season.
And the early signs were promising as he scored all four goals in the Gunners' thrilling 4-4 draw away to Liverpool in April.
But things soon went sour for the Russian forward and after falling behind Gervinho, Lukas Podolski, Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla in the pecking order, he returned to Zenit in 2013.
Kim Kallstrom
Spartak Moscow to Arsenal, January 2014
Fee: Loan
This was far from Arsene Wenger's finest hour.
Despite establishing that Kallstrom was carrying a back injury, Wenger ignored medical advice to signed the Swede on loan.
And unsurpisingly, Kallstrom, who hadn't played in over a month, didn't shine for the north London outfit.
It took him a further eight weeks before he made his Gunners debut against Swansea, coming off the bench, however it was clear his best days were behind him.
Juan Cuadrado - Spotlight on
Juan Cuadrado
Fiorentina to Chelsea, February 2015
Fee: £23.3m
After his exploits at the 2014 World Cup with Colombia, Juan Cuadrado arrived at Stamford Bridge amid much excitement.
But after making just four starts for the Blues, he was loaned out to Juventus.
Now a permanent move to the Serie A giants beckons.
Andy Carroll
Newcastle to Liverpool, January 2011
Fee: £35m
Having sold Torres to Chelsea for £50m, Liverpool had the chance to make a statement in the transfer market.
Instead, they wasted a huge chunk of that money on Carroll.
Having arrived at Anfield injured, the Kop faithful had to wait two months for him to pull on a red shirt.
But he failed to win favour under Brendan Rodgers and was shipped out to West Ham, initially on loan, before moving to London permanently in 2013.
