Arsenal are considering making a renewed attempt to sign Sporting Lisbon’s holding midfielder William Carvalho, according to reports.
The Gunners have a crippling injury list with Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta amongst those sidelined.
Arsene Wenger is in the market for a midfielder, and are thought to have a few targets in mind.
The Daily Telegraph claim Arsenal haven’t forgotten about Carvalho, who has a £35million release clause.
The report suggests Carvalho could in fact be available for £25m, although Sporting are reluctant to let the 23-year-old leave.
Arsenal could join the race to sign Everton defender John Stones, according to Spanish news outlet Fichajes.
Chelsea were heavily linked to the 21-year-old over the summer and had four bids - one worth £38m - turned down.
John Stones - Spotlight on
Though the Gunners aren’t light defensively, Wenger it is thought, has asked the board for funds to make a move for Stones.
Everton have repeatedly maintained a hardline stance on Stones by claiming he’s not for sale.
Wenger is reportedly calling upon a member of Arsenal’s double winning team of 1998 to secure a deal for Ruben Neves.

The Gunners are one of a handful of clubs chasing the 18-year-old midfielder.
And according to Portuguese paper O Jogo, former Arsenal star Luis Boa Morte was tasked with scouting Neves in action for Porto, however it was a wasted trip as he was on the bench against Uniao da Madeira.
