Manchester United eye £30m Luke Shaw cover as Louis van Gaal confirms moves are likely
MANCHESTER UNITED have scouted out Wolfsburg's Ricardo Rodriguez as a possible stand-in for Luke Shaw, according to reports.
Wolfsburg reportedly value Ricardo Rodriguez (left) at £30m
Shaw, 20, has been ruled out for much of the season after suffering a broken leg in United's Champions League clash at PSV in September.
The break came just two weeks after the summer transfer window shut.
United were unable to sign cover for the England international but yesterday manager Louis van Gaal confirmed moves will likely be made in January.
"I was convinced that he would have a very good season," Van Gaal said.
"Shaw was the main player for that position is it was a big blow for us.
"Maybe we have to buy a left-back in January. His rehabilitation is going well, but the process can now be very slow."
Manchester United - Most Expensive Transfers
United are trailing a number of defenders - having signed only Matteo Darmian in the summer - and Rodriguez is on that list, according to the Sunday Mirror.
Switzerland international Rodriguez, 23, has made 21 appearances for club and country this season.
Wolfsburg have already said they will not sell him for less than £30million.
Luke Shaw has not played since breaking his leg in September
He has helped the club climb to third in the Bundesliga, while they sit equal on points with PSV in United's Champions League group.
Rodriguez played against United at Old Trafford during their Champions League clash back in late September and will likely start when the two teams face off in Germany next month.
