Gary Cahill insists England's confidence will not drain away despite suffering a 2-0 defeat to Spain
The defender maintained England has not been outclassed in Friday's defeat to Spain as Roy Hodgson's side endured their first reverse since the World Cup.
Yet the 2-0 loss did serve as a reality check after the pristine Euro 2016 qualifying campaign when England posted 10 wins out of 10 and was another example of Hodgson's team being unable to eke out a positive result against rivals who represent a step up in class. England's last notable success came in a friendly against Brazil in February 2013.
Cahill, a late substitute in Alicante, maintained one defeat would not undermine the belief built up over what had previously been a 15-match unbeaten run.
He believes judgment should be reserved until a testing friendly programme which continues against France tomorrow, and then Germany and Holland next March, is concluded.
