Louis van Gaal: Why I gave Cameron Borthwick-Jackson his Manchester United debut
LOUIS VAN GAAL has revealed he had 'no fear' playing 18-year-old Cameron Borthwick-Jackson against West Brom last weekend.
Cameron Borthwick-Jackson was given 15 minutes in the game against West Brom
The youngster was brought on as a late substitute by Van Gaal, playing the final 15 minutes of the 2-0 win.
And the Dutchman admitted it was always his intention to dip into the youth squads at United, in keeping with his approach at previous clubs.
And he highlighted the importance of using the young players to offer respite to the senior squad, especially during Champions League game weeks.
"I needed a left full-back because Marcos Rojo had played a few games in a row, so I have to take into account that it might be too much," he explained.

"I put Cameron in the line-up without any fear and I have to say he did very well. I have seen him once or twice and I have been impressed by him.

"I knew that Marouane Fellaini was injured, so I talked with U21s coach Warren Joyce and asked what he had for me.
"I am always talking with him or U18s coach Paul McGuinness and Joyce said at the moment the left full-back is in good shape."
