Liverpool set for deal with Roma for £18m star following Jurgen Klopp appointment
ROMA will make a renewed effort to sign Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho in January, according to reports.
Mamadou Sakho is expected to be a target for Roma in January
The France international was understood to have been on the Serie A side's radar over the summer, although a move failed to materialise.
And reports in Italy now suggest they will again be looking to lure the 25-year-old away from Anfield.
The Frenchman penned a new 'long-term' deal with the club last month, keeping him on Merseyside for the foreseeable future.
Liverpool - Most Expensive Transfers
He said at the time: "I am very happy to sign a long-term contract with Liverpool because, as I've always said, I am very happy here and my family are happy in Liverpool.
"I will keep working because I am a Liverpool soldier and when Liverpool need me, I try to give my best."
However, the centre-back has since struggled to hold down a first-team place and made just three Premier League appearances under Brendan Rodgers.
And his future now remains unclear following the arrival of former Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp last week.
With talk of the German bringing in new signings in the January transfer window, Sakho could become surplus to requirements and be cleared to make the move to Roma.
Sakho has made just three Premier League appearances this season
Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport claim that officials from the Italian club have not given up on the defender and expect to make a bid in the New Year.
Sakho joined the Reds from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain for £18million in 2013 and has since gone on to make over 50 appearances for the club.
