The 19-year-old forward joined United for £36million on deadline day, despite Monaco president Vadim Vasilyev revealing last week that another club lodged a late bid.
According to Manchester Evening News, the club in question was Premier League champions Chelsea who reportedly offered more money than the Red Devils.
But the France international instead opted to complete a move to Old Trafford and insists boss Louis van Gaal played a big part in his decision.
When asked why he chose United, Martial explained: "Because, for me, they are amongst the five best clubs in the world.

He added: "Van Gaal called me and spoke to my mother who did the translation. When I arrived in Manchester I met him, we discussed at length and it was done quickly."
