Michael Oliver is arguably the Premier League's best referee
The match on Saturday evening at Old Trafford will be the first time Oliver has refereed a match between the bitter rivals.
The last time the two sides met in March, Steven Gerrard was dismissed by Martin Atkinson for stamping on Ander Herrera.
Oliver has taken charge of a Liverpool match this season - their 0-0 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates.
The 30-year-old has already had some controversial incidents to deal with in his first four games this season.
On the opening day of the season, Oliver sent off Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois after he fouled Swansea's Bafetimbi Gomis who was running though on goal.
He then reduced Stoke to nine men against West Brom on August 29 after sending off Ibrahim Afellay and Charlie Adam.
