Martial completed his move to United yesterday for an initial £36million, rising to £58m with add-ons.
The 19-year-old becomes the third most expensive player in United's history and the most expensive teenager of all time.
But he admits, playing in Ligue 1, that he has been under the radar until now.
"It's normal that Wayne Rooney doesn't know me," he said. "I've played a lot in Ligue 1 but I'm happy to go there.
"He's a big player and next to him I'll improve my game a lot."

But the France under-21 star, who was called into Didier Deschamps' side for the first time this month, is adamant he can mix it in the Premier League.
He added: "Since I was young, people have told me I have the right characteristics to play in England. I'm really keen to develop my game in the English league and prove my worth."
Martial also admitted his family were concerned about his big-money move, but insists he his calm about the situation.
"I don't know if I'm worth 80m euros but I don't worry about the sums," he said.
