Aston Villa fail in bid to sign striker Dimitar Berbatov
The 34-year-old Bulgarian was a free agent after leaving Monaco in the summer and reports had linked him with a deadline-day switch to Aston Villa.
However, he has instead opted to sign for Superleague outfit PAOK, who sit 12th in the standings without a single win this term.
Berbatov - Bulgaria's all-time leading scorer with 48 goals - will be looking to change the fortunes of his new club.
The experienced striker arrived in England in 2006, leaving Bayer Leverkusen to join Tottenham for £10.9million.
A £30.75m move to Manchester United followed and he scored 48 league goals in four seasons with the Red Devils.
After leaving Old Trafford, the 78-cap Bulgaria international returned to London with Fulham before spending the 2014-15 campaign with Ligue 1 outfit Monaco.
