Rodgers is confident that Liverpool can progress to the knockout stages of Europa League
BRENDAN Rodgers will have his eyes confidently on a place in the knock-out rounds of the Europa League after Liverpool were handed a seemingly comfortable passage through the group stage.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is pleased with Group B and is confident of progress
And, crucially, the group B fixtures also fell kindly for Liverpool's Premier League prospects with Rodgers' side not having to leave Merseyside for a single match immediately after their commitments in Europe.
Liverpool have been drawn alongside French side Bordeaux, Switzerland's Sion and Russia's Rubin Kazan.
A first meeting with Rubin Kazan will mean a round trip of over 4,000 miles for the away leg in Russia.
But with that fixture, Liverpool's fourth of the group on 5 November, at least they avoid a mid-winter trip in December.
When they fly back, Rodgers' men will face Crystal Palace at Anfield three days later.
And every one of their group games - which start in Bordeaux on Thursday 17 September - is followed by a home fixture or, in the case of the match after Liverpool's first home tie against Sion, a local derby with Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, 4 October.
Should have added somewhere if you can squeeze in that Bordeaux finished sixth in Ligue 1 last season with Rubin Kazan occupying the same final spot in the Russian Premier League.
