Man Utd set to pounce for Christian Benteke as Liverpool dawdle over paying release clause
MANCHESTER UNITED are weighing up a move for Aston Villa's Christian Benteke with Liverpool stalling over meeting the player's £32.5million release clause.
Christian Benteke - Spotlight on
Express Sport understands Liverpool are preparing a bid for Benteke after seeing Raheem Sterling join Manchester City in a £49m deal yesterday.
But the Daily Mail claim Liverpool are still refusing to pay Benteke's full release clause as they hold out for a better deal.
Villa boss Tim Sherwood is adamant the Belgian ace won't be leaving unless the full £32.5m is received.
And that has United pondering a move after letting Robin van Persie join Fenerbahce, according to the reports.
Christian Benteke can leave Aston Villa for £32.5m
Edinson Cavani remains Louis van Gaal's top target, while Robert Lewandowski and Harry Kane are also thought to be under consideration.
But Benteke may represent the best value out the available options with that trio all set to cost significantly more than £32.5m.
