Nicolas Otamendi - Spotlight on
The Valencia defender has returned to Spain following the Copa America and is keen to sort out his future.
United, along with rivals Manchester City and Real Madrid are monitoring Otamendi's movements.
Valencia are ready to demand a €50million (£35m) for the 27-year-old.
Otamendi signed for Valencia in February 2014 but was sent to Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro on loan until the start of last season.
He made 35 La Liga appearances as Valencia qualified for the Champions League for the first time in four years.
Nicolas Otamendi's future could be resolved this week
United are desperate to land a new central defender despite handing Chris Smalling and Phil Jones new deals.
Louis van Gaal's No.1 target is Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos although there is weariness that he is trying to get a new bumper deal in the Spanish capital.
The Ramos saga is linked with David De Gea's likely move to Madrid with both sides holding out for more money than being offered.
And Madrid are considering a move for Otamendi as Ramos' replacement if the club's vice captain does move on.
