Liverpool favourites to secure SECOND defender with Davide Zappacosta bid imminent
LIVERPOOL will make Italy Under-21 and Atalanta right-back Davide Zappacosta their second defensive signing of the summer.
Italy U21 defender Davide Zappacosta (left) is reportedly wanted by Liverpool
That is according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim the Reds have made contact with Serie A side Atalanta over a summer transfer of the 23-year-old.
Zappacosta boasts 17 caps for Italy's U21 side and was part of the first XI that dismantled England 3-1 at the European Championships earlier this week.
He is also wanted by Italian sides Torino and Fiorentina but Gazzetta report that Liverpool have stolen a lead on the race for his capture.
Premier League scouts are known to have been present during the Championships in the Czech Republic and Zappacosta appears to have caught the eye of Reds staff.
Quickfire Questions with England's Adam Lallana
He is seen as a viable replacement for Glen Johnson, who left the club on a free transfer this summer.
Liverpool used midfielder Emre Can for in defence for long periods last season and manager Brendan Rodgers is looking to strengthen that position.
Zappacosta would become Liverpool's second defensive recruit of the summer after the club announced the £3.5million arrival of Joe Gomez from Charlton earlier this month.
