Chelsea prepare for away days with Stamford Bridge announcement
CHELSEA may face having to play games away from home for three years as they prepare plans to expand Stamford Bridge to a capacity of 67,000.
Chelsea may have to leave Stamford Bridge for up to three years
Chelsea's current capacity is 41,837, which leaves them lagging behind other big clubs in this country and in Europe, and they have been searching for ways to expand for some time. They have ruled out a permanent move.
The Premier League champions have invited season-ticket holders, members and neighbours to an exhibition of their plans at the end of this month.
Twickenham and Wembley have already been sounded out as potential temporary destinations for the club, though discussions have been preliminary. Among the ideas under consideration by Chelsea is to dig down to produce another stadium strata below street level.
