REVEALED: Why £40m Mats Hummels has REJECTED Manchester United move
MATS HUMMELS has reportedly rejected a move to Manchester United in a show of loyalty to Borussia Dortmund.
United boss Louis van Gaal had made Hummels his top summer target in defence.
But according to reports in Germany, the £40million-rated World Cup winner is set to stay at Dortmund.
It is claimed Hummels has chosen to remain loyal to the club he joined from Bayern Munich in 2009.
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc told German magazine Kicker: "It was legitimate that Mats was thinking of his future, but I told him we're planning with him."
Mats Hummels is a target for Manchester United
While Hummels staying will delight incoming Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel, it is a blow for Van Gaal.
Arsenal were also linked with the 26-year-old but it was felt that United was a more likely destination.
