Don't destroy Raheem Sterling - Sol Campbell's message to PFA over Liverpool star
FORMER Arsenal and Tottenham star Sol Campbell has begged the PFA and the national press to afford Liverpool ace Raheem Sterling more protection.
Raheem Sterling Player Profile
Sterling has been linked to a handful of top Premier League clubs after rejecting the Reds' opening contract offer of £100,000-a-week.
The 20-year-old has attracted negative headlines after he was pictured inhaling laughing gas as well as holding a shish pipe.
And Campbell believes Sterling needs to be protected, so as not to damage his career.
Do. Not. Destroy. That. Man. Yes, he's young, yes, things will happen
"He's one of the most talented English players coming out of this country - Do not destroy him," Campbell told The Guardian.
"Wayne Rooney did a lot of stuff, he got some flack, but it was almost overlooked: ‘Oh, you've been a bad boy, let’s overlook it again.’
"Raheem Sterling is one of the most talented men coming out of this country. Wake up. PFA, wake up, press wake up and protect this boy."
Raheem Sterling is yet to sign a new deal with Liverpool
And Campbell believes Liverpool should do their utmost to keep Sterling at Anfield.
He added: "Do. Not. Destroy. That. Man. Yes, he's young, yes, things will happen, and [Liverpool should] pay him the money because he's worth it.”
