Navas impressed for the South American minnows at the World Cup, earning an £8million move to Real Madrid.
But according to Spanish sports paper Marca, United boss Louis van Gaal tried to sign the keeper at Old Trafford.
Marca claim Van Gaal approached Navas only to be told he had already agreed to join Real.

The publication - often described as the Spanish club's mouthpiece - also suggest United could go back in for Navas at the end of the season.
Current No 1 David de Gea is expected to sign a new deal with the Red Devils.
And Van Gaal brought in former Barcelona shot-stopper Victor Valdes to swell his keeping ranks that also possesses Anders Lindegaard.
