Without their skipper Steven Gerrard, who was rested ahead of Tuesday's must-win Champions League match against Basle, Liverpool failed to capitalise on any chances to break the deadlock at Anfield.
Athough Gerrard's appearance with 23 minutes to go at Anfield lifted his teammates, particularly Raheem Sterling, they still could not find the breakthrough and had to settle for a point.
I thought the players gave everything
"I thought the players gave everything, particularly in the second half we looked like we could make the breakthrough," said Rodgers.
"We pressed the game well, got into good areas and maybe needed a little bit of luck for the ball to drop to us.
"We kept a clean sheet, which was important. Seven points out of nine this week has been a good return for us."
