Ronald Koeman believes Southampton can STILL improve despite thrashing Sunderland
THE first thing Ronald Koeman did when his Southampton players returned to training following their 8-0 win over Sunderland was to point out their sloppy start to the game.
"The players had two days off and when they came back we showed them some clips from the first 20 minutes of the Sunderland game because it wasn't the way I like to start a game at home," he said.
"It's difficult to talk about because the final result was 8-0 - but we can start much better than that."
Southampton fans will be a little disgruntled to hear the response from Sunderland manager Gus Poyet, however, who still cannot believe his side lost so badly to a side such as Southampton.
Koeman aware of Stoke threat [AMBIENT]
Poyet said: "The result was just a consequence of decision making that was so bad I cannot believe we did it. We didn't do it against a top team - we didn't make it against proper, top players. We made it against Southampton, who are very good but we knew we needed to be better.
"I've got no explanation. I don't accept it and I can't understand that you can lose 8-0, but the fans seem to have taken it on the chin."
